I am Lady Cutekitten of Lolcat, a title bestowed on me by Archdruid John Michael Greer (Ecosophia.net) after I wangled permission to post a monthly cute-Kitten picture on his blog. As of yesterday, I found I could also call myself “Tortuous Aorta.” It showed up on my chest X-ray. This means your aorta is not as straight as normal, but curved. Since it hasn’t bothered me for 61 years, they said I was almost certainly born with it and not to worry about it. I have no plans to change my handle, since I don’t care to post monthly aorta pictures on John’s blog. Or mine either.

Has there ever been a person who had conscious memories of potty training?

I was born with a constricted urethra. This became apparent once I was out of diapers. I’d sit on the potty for ages. Drip, drip, drip. I can remember doing that, but not the actual potty training. Anyone else?

The urethra problem probably helped me teach myself to read, as I occupied myself with Little Golden Books during the long sessions, so it wasn’t all bad. It was surgically corrected when I was 3, but by then I’d mastered phonics anyway.

Our moral and intellectual betters take the fun out of everything! As recently as 5 years ago, this article would have sent me off on a happy search for more info on that African guy in medieval England. Who was he? How’d he get to England? WHY did he go to England? Did he bring his family along? And so on. I’d not only have had fun, I might have got rich. James Clavell did off the similar story of Will Adams.

But today? Meh. I can’t help but wonder if the Woke are making the guy up. I could still get rich, of course, and may—this guy, if he existed, is tugging at my mind—but I won’t have nearly as much fun as I would have.
